T.A. Consulting, Inc. Naval History Museum Contract Job Opportunities:

Individual will work independently to research and/or collect information using primary sources (including oral histories if appropriate), analyze data, and write independent and objective assessments of historical naval events, organizations, and personnel. The end product will require a wide range of content for various audiences that will include elementary school to the graduate level, historians, journalists, archivists, librarians, curators, museum professionals, Navy Personnel (recruits to flag officers), various minority groups based on gender, race, and ethnicity, Navy veterans, and the public at large. Focus will be on increasing the understanding of events that have shaped the naval forces of today. The contractor shall perform the following historian support services:

  • Work on primary projects of historical research and writing on the history of the United States Navy; research that shall include Joint, Combined, and Navy primary documents and sources. Sections of the primary project shall be packaged to allow easy display of chapters or sections in shorter monographs, pamphlets, or articles including electronic versions.

Minimum Qualifications

The contractor personnel shall:

  • Possess or have the ability to obtain a SECRET clearance.
  • Be an expert in the field of Naval Military History with at least 20 years of Naval History experience that shall include experience in performing research at the National Archives and writing manuscripts for publications.

Documentary History on the Naval Aspects of the Spanish American War

  • Survey document collections at repositories identified by NHHC and independently identify all document collections that contain records or documentation pertaining to the naval aspects of the Spanish-American War.
  • Create a summary file list that shall detail those records/documentation collections in a format provided by NHHC.
  • Scan/Create electronic records of the records/documentation collections identified by NHHC as a result of the initial document survey.
  • Create a database/control system of the scanned/electronic records that shall include titles, correlation, and all relevant metadata and repository information.
  • Conduct bi-weekly meetings with NHHC to review progress/results of the tasks included in Project 1.

Documentary History on the Naval Aspects of the Mexican American War

  • Survey document collections at repositories identified by NHHC and independently identify all document collections that contain records or documentation pertaining to the naval aspects of the Mexican American War.
  • Create a summary file list that shall detail those records/documentation collections in a format provided by NHHC.
  • Scan/Create electronic records of the records/documentation collections identified by NHHC as a result of the initial document survey.
  • Create a database/control system of the scanned/electronic records that shall include titles, correlation, and all relevant metadata and repository information.
  • Conduct bi-weekly meetings with NHHC to review progress/results of the tasks included in Project 2.

Review Dudley Knox papers and collect other relevant documents on naval aspects of World War One

  • Assist NHHC in determining what documents are not already in the Dudley Knox collection including those concerning naval administration, procurement, training, and social and cultural issues.
  • Survey document collections at repositories identified by NHHC and independently identify all document collections containing records or documentation pertaining to naval aspects of World War One.
  • Create a summary file list that shall detail those records/documentation collections in a format provided by NHHC.
  • Scan/Create electronic records of the records/documentation collections identified by NHHC as a result of the initial document survey.
  • Create a database/control system of the scanned/electronic records that shall include titles, correlation, and all relevant metadata and repository information.
  • Conduct bi-weekly meetings with NHHC to review progress/results of the tasks included in Project 3.
