Scholarly Editing is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal committed to the development and advancement of all aspects of textual editing, including documentary editing. From the journal’s statement of purpose: “The journal is committed to all aspects of textual scholarship and recovery, including the preservation of texts and artifacts that represent and celebrate the lives of and contributions from and about Black, Latinx, and Indigenous peoples; Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders; women; LGBTQ+ individuals; and peoples of the Global South. In addition to projects that illustrate the traditional range of editorial methodologies and practices, we welcome those that feature rare or marginal texts, texts that dislodge the single-author model, oral histories and tales, community recovery, creative works of ‘rememory,’ and the decolonizing of artistic works, archives, records, and editions for the discoverability of racialized and underrepresented stories and cultural artifacts.”

The content published in the journal includes essays, micro editions, reviews of print and digital editions, and teaching materials. The journal’s eclectic, multidisciplinary approach makes it an invaluable resource for anyone interested in the theory, practice, and pedagogy of scholarly editing, including educators, researchers, scholars, historians, archivists, editors, information professionals, and digital humanists.

Noelle A, Baker is editor in chief and Bob Riter is managing editor. Revived in 2020, the journal was edited by Amanda Gailey and Andrew Jewell from 2012 to 2017. From 1979 to 2012, the Association for Documentary Editing published the journal’s predecessor, Documentary Editing, a print publication that evolved from a newsletter format to a quarterly and then annual journal. At this time, issues of Documentary Editing cannot be posted online due to copyright concerns.
