Job Summary:
The Columbia University Libraries seeks an Associate Editor to assist in the editing and preparation of the Selected Papers of John Jay. Reporting to the Editor, responsibilities include: Researching new documents, creating original transcriptions of texts, and verification (proofreading) of transcriptions of texts against source document for accuracy and formatting. Conducting detailed research for annotation (broader subjects as well as identifications and cross references), checking existing annotation for the accuracy of citations (page numbers, volume numbers, etc.), and drafting of annotation and editorial notes. Indexing. Preparation of manuscripts for publisher. May supervise student workers and/or interns.

**This is a temporary position. Dates of the position: Date of hire through 9/30/15 (with possibility of extension). Start date no earlier than January 1, 2014.**

Minimum Qualifications (Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered as an applicant): Bachelor’s Degree and at least two years of related experience.

Additional Position-Specific Minimum Qualifications (Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant): Knowledge of the American Federal/Early National Period.

Preferred Qualifications:
MA or PhD. in History or related field. Desired special fields: legal, diplomatic, political, reform movements, New York State, family history
Previous scholarly editorial experience, publishing, archival, research, proficiency/familiarity with XML and TEI standards.
