Lincoln Papers Seek New Director

The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum seeks a new Director for the Papers of Abraham Lincoln. All applications must be received by December 17, 2017.

The Director works under the Administrative direction of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library (ALPL) State Historian and

  • manages the operations of the Papers of Abraham Lincoln
  • directs, coordinates, and supervises the day-today administration of the project
  • oversees the editing and publication of the digital PAL
  • oversees staff training and continuing education
  • oversees the editing of select print editions, conducts special professional historical research projects in Illinois history and assists in the creation of exhibits, catalogues, and special programs
  • attends professional conferences and presents research findings; provides assistance to visiting scholars
  • prepares weekly report of activities.

Minimum Requirements

  • the completion of a Ph.D. in American history, plus five years of professional experience in the field of documentary editing
  • knowledge and experience in performing historical research, editing and writing
  • knowledge of Illinois historical literature and collections
  • critical skills in assessing and analyzing manuscripts and documents
  • management experience
  • knowledge and experience in print and digital documentary editing
  • experience using computer for word processing and data analysis
  • experience using web-based digital documentary editing software and desktop documentary editing applications
  • experience participating in collaborative research and writing
  • experience writing grant proposals to public and private funding agencies
  • a record of research and scholarly publications in the field of history and/or documentary editing
  • ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees
  • prepare and deliver speeches
