Job Announcement: Digital Collections Specialist at Dickinson State University

Dickinson State University is looking to hire a Digital Collections Specialist — Social Media/Education. The Specialist creates and reviews descriptive content for collection in the Theodore Roosevelt Digital Library and helps to train and support others assisting in such tasks. This position will help to prepare materials for presentation on the web and in other media and will provide context and interpretation of these collections for local communities and online records.

This is a full time position at the Theodore Roosevelt Center at Dickinson State University in North Dakota.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in History, Library Science, or related field

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

  • Experience using and administering Social Media platforms
  • Demonstrated ability to work and meet deadlines independently and as part of a team
  • Demonstrated excellent writing skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Proficiency in reading and comprehending 19th /20th Century handwriting

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Familiarity with Theodore Roosevelt, his relationship with western North Dakota, and/or his relationship with the candidate’s field of expertise
  • Experience writing and editing content for public and academic audiences, including storytelling through audio and video production
  • Experience creating and delivering educational programs for K-16 and adult audiences

DELIVERABLES & OUTCOMES:

  • Promote the Theodore Roosevelt Digital Library’s use by a wide variety of patrons, through social media and educational programming
  • Write, edit, and help develop original descriptive content for items in the digital library
  • Participate in the training and supervision of volunteers, interns, and students working in the digital library
  • Review and organize digital objects in various formats (i.e. text, image, audio, video, etc.) following best practices and standards associated with each format
  • Actively participate in the digital humanities community through professional memberships, conferences, and other means, to stay abreast of best practices to be applied in the digital library

COMPENSATION PACKAGE:

  • Salary range of $38,000-41,000/annually, commensurate with qualifications and experience
